This Cookie & Local Storage Policy explains how The Visionary Platform Ltd (“Stride”, “we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage and device storage) when you use the Stride website and application (the “Service”). It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. What these technologies are
- Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser.
- Local / session storage is a browser mechanism that stores small amounts of data on your device.
- Device storage (in the mobile app) holds your settings and a secure login token on the device itself, rather than as a browser cookie.
We refer to all of these together as “storage technologies”.
2. What we use and why
Stride keeps its use of storage technologies deliberately minimal. We do not use third-party advertising cookies and we do not build advertising profiles.
| Category | Purpose | Examples | Can you switch it off? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Sign you in, keep you signed in, and keep the Service secure | Authentication/session token, security and load-balancing | No. The Service can’t work without these |
| Functional / preferences | Remember your choices | Theme (light/dark), units, language | Yes. Clearing storage resets them |
| Analytics (limited) | Understand how the Service is used and diagnose errors so we can improve it | On the website: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, only if you accept them (Section 2.1). In the app: event-based usage and error/diagnostic data | Yes. On the website they are off unless you accept. See Section 4 |
We do not use storage technologies for advertising, cross-site tracking, or selling data.
2.1 Website analytics cookies
When you first visit strideapp.co.uk we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, or do not choose, no analytics tool is loaded at all. If you accept, we use two tools to understand how the website is used so we can improve it:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google): which pages are visited, how people arrive (for example from a search engine or social media), and general device and location information at country or city level. We switch off Google’s advertising features: advertising storage, ad personalisation and ad data sharing are all set to “denied”.
- Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft): heatmaps and session recordings that show how pages are used, such as clicks, scrolling and where people get stuck. Clarity masks text you type into forms by default, and we do not use it for advertising.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
stride_consent | Stride | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies | 12 months |
stride_internal | Stride | Set only on our own team’s devices, so our visits are not counted | Up to 400 days |
_ga, _ga_<ID> | Google Analytics | Distinguish visitors and sessions | Up to 2 years |
_clck, _clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Recognise a returning visitor and group page views into one session | Up to 1 year / 1 day |
You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page. If you withdraw consent, measurement stops and the analytics cookies above are deleted from your browser.
3. Mobile app
The Stride mobile app does not use browser cookies. It uses your device’s secure storage to keep you signed in and to store preferences (theme, units, language). It also uses device storage for our analytics and diagnostics tools: PostHog (product analytics), Sentry (crash reports) and Microsoft Clarity (session insights, with all text masked). See the Privacy Policy for what each collects. You can clear this by signing out or removing the app.
4. Managing storage technologies
- Browser: you can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Blocking strictly-necessary storage will stop parts of the Service from working (e.g. staying signed in).
- Analytics: on the website, analytics cookies are off until you accept them, and you can withdraw consent at any time through Cookie settings in the site footer (see Section 2.1 and the Privacy Policy).
- App: turn off usage analytics (PostHog and Microsoft Clarity) in Settings > Privacy > Share usage analytics; sign out or uninstall to clear stored data on your device.
5. Changes
We may update this policy as the Service evolves (for example, if we add new analytics tools). We’ll update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
